SUMMARY:USLCA Webinar: Compassionate Care of Opioid Impacted Mother-Infant Dyads
DESCRIPTION:Number of CERPs & CNEs\n1.0 L CERP and 1.0 CNE* (Pending ANCC Approval) \nPresenters:\nLisa Cleveland\, PhD\, APRN\, CPNP\, IBCLC\, FAAN \nObjectives:\nBy the end of the webinar\, the participate will be able to: \n\nDescribe national trends in opioid use disorders in pregnant and parenting women.\nExplain therapeutic care of pregnant and parenting women with opioid use disorders and infants with neonatal abstinence syndrome.\nIdentify current breastfeeding recommendations for women receiving medication assisted treatment for an opioid use disorder.\nDiscuss innovative and wholistic approaches to recovery support services for this population of women and infants.\n\nBio:\nDr. Lisa Cleveland is a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner and a tenured Associate Professor at UT Health San Antonio\, School of Nursing. Her innovative research with mother-infant dyads impacted by opioid use has contributed to changes in clinical practice and improved outcomes. Her recovery residence\, Casa Mia\, is a collaborative partnership between the School of Nursing and the nonprofit\, Crosspoint\, Inc. Casa Mia provides safe and supportive housing for pregnant and parenting women with opioid use disorder where they can recover with their children. \nIn addition\, the findings of Dr. Cleveland’s Maternal Opioid Morbidity Study are providing insight into the contextual factors surrounding maternal opioid use relapse and overdose deaths; the leading cause of maternal mortality in TX and a growing cause nationwide. Dr. Cleveland is now developing and psychometrically analyzing a brief screening instrument to help identify women at-risk for overdose death so they may be referred to life-saving resources. Further\, Dr. Cleveland is leading the Texas Targeted Opioid Response to ensure access to Narcan\, and opioid overdose identification and reversal education: moreNARCANplease.com. She is also leading a statewide community paramedicine program (TTOR Bexar County) to prevent overdose\, increase the use of peer recovery services\, and improve access to treatment.

SUMMARY:USLCA Webinar: Vitamin D and it's Use During Lactation
DESCRIPTION:Number of CERPs & CNEs\n1.0 R CERP and 1.0 CNE* (Pending ANCC Approval) \nPresenters:\nBruce Hollis\, PhD \nObjectives:\nBy the end of the webinar\, the participate will be able to:\n1. Understand the basic metabolism of vitamin D.\n2. Understand the consequences of not meeting the dietary requirements during this period of life.\n3. Understand how best to supply vitamin D to these patients and how much vitamin D is required to meet these needs. \nBio:\nDr. Hollis received his BSc and MSc from The Ohio State University in 1973 and 1976\, respectively. He subsequently received his PhD in Nutritional Biochemistry from The University of Guelph in 1979. Following this he did a fellowship in Endocrinology at Case Western Reserve University and remained on faculty there until 1986 where he remains to this day at Full Professor. During his scientific tenure he has had many grants from The National Institutes of Health that resulted in over 350 peer reviewed publications that has resulted in an h-index of 123 with over 55\,000 citations as reported by Google Scholar Citations. His scientific achievements include both basic research as well as clinically based research. He defined the vitamin D content of human milk early in his career as well as many facets of vitamin D metabolism. During the later part of his career he undertook projects that defined the vitamin D requirements of mothers during pregnancy and mothers and infants during lactation. The studies with respect to pregnancy and lactation have resulted in a change in clinical practice with vitamin D’s ability to decrease complications of birth as well as preventing preterm birth of the child.
