- Describe the benefit of skin to skin as it relates to breastfeeding the NICU baby.
- Compare feeding behaviors of a 35 week infant with those of a term infant.
Valerie has been practicing as a NICU RN IBCLC since 2005. She cared for babies as a bedside RN in the NICU before her IBCLC. Valerie uses her creative talents to augment the science of medical care delivered in the NICU. Bringing art and heart into the NICU she has authored NICU Mothers Log Books, Breasteps, The B.O.S.S. (Breastfeeding/Bottle feeding Observational Scoring System) used in the electronic medical record. Valerie has given talks online and at The Academy of Breastfeeding Medicine Annual conference as a breakout session. Valerie lives in Charlottesville Virginia with husband and all the pets her kids left behind when they went off to college.
