Oklahoma Family Dietitian and Lactation Consultant Petra Colindres is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) and licensed dietitian with a passion for infant nutrition and prenatal education. She received her Master’s in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) with a focus in early childhood nutrition, finishing a dietetic internship through OU Medical Center as well as clinical lactation training through OUHSC. Over the last four years, Petra has seen infant and pediatric patients in a variety of settings, both inpatient and outpatient, and has worked to increase community outreach through one-on-one consults and hosting a variety of prenatal, breastfeeding, and early childhood nutrition classes for Oklahoma families. Petra values the importance of the first thousand days of an infant’s life (from conception to 2 years) to be the standard for future successful health outcomes. She enjoys working with mothers, fathers, and babies by providing lactation assistance and pediatric nutrition support.
Petra is currently the Assistant Director for the Oklahoma Breastfeeding Resource Center (OBRC) in the Department of OB/GYN at OUHSC. In her role, she supports several OBRC initiatives:
-Serves as the lactation consultant provider for the newly reopened Breastfeeding Clinic at OU Physicians.
-Helps manage the free 24/7 Oklahoma Breastfeeding hotline funded by the Oklahoma State Department of Health
-Provides project support for the Becoming Baby-Friendly in Oklahoma project funded by OSDH
Becky has worked in lactation for 25 years. She developed and managed the hospital-wide lactation service at OU Medical Center for 15 years and is currently Director of the Oklahoma Breastfeeding Resource Center in the Department of OB/GYN at OU Health Sciences Center (OUHSC) and Executive Director for the Oklahoma Mothers’ Milk Bank. She leads the Becoming Baby-Friendly in Oklahoma project sponsored by the Oklahoma State Department of Health (OSDH). Becky also developed and oversees the Oklahoma Breastfeeding Hotline and provides professional training/education to all Oklahoma hospitals to improve their breastfeeding care and outcomes, both OSDH-funded projects. She represents the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners on the US Breastfeeding Committee and has served twice as Lead Editor for the International Lactation Consultant Association textbook, Core Curriculum for Lactation Consultant Practice. She is past Chair of IBLCE and past President of ILCA. Becky has been involved in the Coalition of Oklahoma Breastfeeding Advocates (COBA) since its founding in 2000 and is past Chair of the Board of Directors.
