This month, we’re excited to share information from the Southeastern Lactation Consultant Association (SELCA).

SELCA is one of the first professional associations for lactation, having been established as a regional association over 30 years ago. SELCA works closely in partnership with International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) and other national organizations, such as Reaching Our Sisters Everywhere (ROSE).

The purpose of SELCA is to serve as a network for lactation professionals; enhance the reputation, image and credibility of IBCLCs; and provide continuing education for members and the surrounding community. SELCA had a busy year fulfilling this work!

Their first quarterly meeting of 2019 focused on the Georgia Maternal and Infant Mortality and Morbidity, as well as what they, as frontline professionals, could do about it.

In May, SELCA offered a free mini-conference, which included topics such as Achieving Health Equity in Breastfeeding through Diversity and Inclusion, presented by Kimarie Bugg, DNP/MPH/IBCLC, President/CEO and Change Leader of ROSE.

And in July, SELCA had an opportunity to present a unique way to experience Engage: ILCA Conference 2019 in their hometown of Atlanta with the SELCA at #ILCA19 Conference Networking Event. Participants connected with conference attendees from across the globe and attended an exclusive SELCA reception. The chapter was able to increase accessibility and allow lactation providers to engage with the international community in their own backyard.

SELCA is looking forward to welcoming Catherine Watson Genna for their fifth annual conference February 7-8, 2020. Registration is open now!
