Congratulations to the 2023 winner!

Renae Green, IBCLC, RLC, is an International Board Certified Lactation Consultation who has had a great passion for lactation since the birth of her child 9 years ago. She has studied Maternal Child Health: Human Lactation at Union Institute & University. Renae is an advocate for lactation support equity in the Pittsburgh region. Renae has been working in the community and hospital settings over the past five years, focusing on equity-based lactation support initiatives.

In 2018, Renae developed the Healthy Start Center for Urban Breastfeeding (CUB) program which provides 24/7 in-home, virtual, and phone support to Black families in Allegheny County. Now at 5 years, the CUB program continues to provide lactation support, education, engagement, outreach, and training to Black families/prospective professionals. Renae recently created the Lactation Support Specialist program at UPMC Magee Womens Hospital in Pittsburgh. This program offers a well-paid, entry-level position for prospective IBCLCs to obtain their mentored clinical hours from a hospital IBCLC through Pathway 3, then stay on as a lactation specialist pending results of the exam. This program serves to address the IBCLC shortage in the region, particularly IBCLCs of color and those of limited financial resources. This program is growing, with plans to expand to other hospitals.Renae is also a core member for a local Breastfeeding Family Friendly Community initiative and serves as the Direct Service Committee Co-Chair for the Black Breastfeeding Caucus.

Renae is doing amazing work and we are happy to present her with USLCA’s Award of Excellence!
