Option #1 – 500 hours
If you are new to the field of lactation management and would like to qualify for the IBCLC exam by Pathway 3, the Lactation Education Resources 500-hour program offers a wide range of clinical experiences working with experienced lactation consultants. LER has active affiliation agreements at clinical settings in more than 30 states. If there is not a site in your location, LER’s clinical internship director will support you in facilitating an internship at an existing hospital setting or guiding you through the process of finding a local internship site close to home when possible and collaborate with the clinical site’s education department to establish an affiliation agreement between the hospital and LER. 95-hour Lactation Consultant Training Program required.
Options #2 – 100 hours
If you are currently a Pathway 1 candidate and looking for more diverse clinical experience or have recently certified as an IBCLC and would like to validate and enhance your clinical skills, the 100-hour program is for you. This program is intended for professionals who want to increase their experience in a specific area, such as a NICU nurse who wants experience with out-patient, older healthy babies. LER has active affiliation agreements at clinical settings in more than 30 states. If there is not a site in your location, LER’s clinical internship director will support you in facilitating an internship at an existing hospital setting or guiding you through the process of finding a local internship site close to home when possible and collaborate with the clinical site’s education department to establish an affiliation agreement between the hospital and LER.
