Congratulations to the 2021 winner!
The winner of the 2021 Changemaker Award Kristie Karroum, RN, FNP-C, IBCLC
Kristie has been working with mother and babies as an advocate for breastfeeding for nearly 20 years. Her mission is to eliminate barriers to care and provide judgement free support, helping families achieve their goals with providing breastmilk. Kristie became an IBCLC in 2014 and has worked in both hospital and community settings. In 2018 she founded a private practice where she eliminated barriers to care in Idaho by creating the first home visit lactation practice billable to Medicaid and private insurances, delivering care to women right in their own home as a home visit Nurse Practitioner and IBCLC.
During the pandemic in 2020 with all local hospital services closed to in-person support Kristie expanded her services to meet the need for mothers. She continued to deliver care to women both in-person and via telehealth. She also developed a free online breastfeeding class to offer women a local option to prenatal education on breastfeeding. Kristie is also a member of the State of Idaho Breastfeeding Coalition and is currently working on a project to deliver evidence based breastfeeding education to pediatric clinics. Her work and dedication to the breastfeeding profession deserves recognition!
