Congratulations to the 2020 winner!
The winners of the 2020 Changemaker Award are Janet Jones, IBCLC, RLC & Lauren Reyes, IBCLC, RLC
Operating the largest lactation services company in Central Texas, Janet and Lauren founded The Breastfeeding Success Company (BFS) in 2014 with a mission to improve mother-baby health by providing the gold standard of breastfeeding medicine. They are publicly recognized small business leaders, and BFS was voted a favorite birth professional partner, serving ~13,000 babies/year (2019). With vitality and grace, they manage a growing staff (35+), monitor the pulse of healthcare, and model their vision of accessible, quality lactation support through the continuum of perinatal care. Their entrepreneurial minds, evidence-based skills, compassionate hearts, articulate communication, and committed advocacy — essential in changemaker leadership — fuel their momentum in the journey to help parents, healthcare partners, employers, the community, and the BFS team remove barriers to breastfeeding success. The most innovative work credited to Janet and Lauren includes a litany of “changemaker” kudos shared by staff for this nomination: securing sole-source contracts with hospitals to furnish prenatal and lactation services; engaging a medical director for clinical oversight; launching donor human milk programs in partner hospitals for premature and term infants; collaborating with healthcare partners and payers to establish cutting-edge billing systems; participating in hospital teams/committees as integrated clinical providers with equal voice in patient care and policy decisions; adopting acuity/complexity-based documentation practices to inform therapeutic delivery and reimbursement; expanding the reach of breastfeeding support to prenatal, NICU, MD office, clinic, home care, and telemedicine settings; investing in staff development and mentoring; and hosting a website with invaluable professional and public breastfeeding resources.
