Congratulations to the 2023 winner!
Heather Preece, MHSc, RDN, IBCLC, RLC started KODIAK KINDNESS, a non-profit based in Kodiak, AK about 20 years ago. This organization provides free lactation and nutrition support and fact-based education to all members of the community (even those who have since moved after enrollment), regardless of race, socio-economic status or background, for the first year of a child’s life, and in some cases beyond that if needed. KODIAK KINDNESS also provides consumable resources such as SNS kits, and loans of equipment such as breast pumps and baby scales to mothers in need. Thanks to her, Kodiak has the highest initiation of breastfeeding rate in the state! She has trained many women over the years to be trained peer counselors, so they can continue uplifting and supporting other women in our community. Whenever you see a healthy, well-fed baby in Kodiak, there is a very high chance that Heather has helped in some capacity.
She is an angel in the community and is well deserving of USLCA’s Changemaker Award!
