The Lactation Consultant Association of Greater Washington’s (LCAGW) purpose is based on three important principles. First, to serve as a continuing education and networking resource for its members. Second, LCAGW promotes the professional growth of lactation consultants by sharing knowledge gained through research and clinical experience.  And lastly, it strives to enhance the reputation, image, and credibility of International Board Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLC’s), the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, and the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) in a responsible and professional manner.

LCAGW is continually developing further goals and objectives as determined by the members. LCAGW’s upcoming goals include: 1) updating the LCAGW website, 2) making sure to be more inclusive in the language the chapter uses, and 3) having more diversity in how LCAGW presents and represents the families it works with.

LCAGW members join together to expand breastfeeding awareness, advance lactation education, promote breastfeeding issues, and enable access to information about all the latest DC-area lactation news. LCAGW strives to organize quarterly meetings, where it invites guest speakers that address relevant topics based on member interest. Other opportunities for involvement in DC-area lactation events are also coordinated through members of LCAGW.
