USLCA’s Licensure efforts have now reached 36 states across the country. The Licensure committee has learned a great deal through the process and together, we have developed two new resources to guide states in the process.
The documents below have been reviewed by legal counsel but we also greatly value member feedback. If you have comments, questions, or concerns about the content of any of these documents, please use the discussion board found here.
USLCA has issued two new documents to help provide clarity regarding some misconceptions that have been promulgated to legislators and the breastfeeding community. Fact vs Fiction: The IBCLC® and CLC and the accompanying Efficacy of the IBCLC®: Recommendations and Evidence are designed to clear up inaccuracies regarding IBCLC licensure. It is hoped that these documents will be shared widely with legislators. colleagues, and all those working to secure licensure of the IBCLC in the United States.
The Issue Paper on Need for Licensure of Lactation Consultants serves as a resource to explain the need for licensure in our country. This succinct one page overview provides talking points to be used when discussing licensure with colleagues, legislators, or others.
The Position Paper-Primer for Drafting IBCLC® Licensure Bills is now available to provide guidance to those drafting a bill. While USLCA understands that licensure bills will look very different from state to state, the criteria suggested in this document is intended to protect the IBCLC and provide public safety.
As a follow-up to these documents, USLCA will develop a model licensure bill for states to utilize in the process.
These documents were created to be used so please download, share, and utilize them to further your licensure efforts.
