Why do I need a mentor?
Having a mentor may decreases the number of clinical hours required to sit for the exam and also helps you to learn from someone who is already working in the field. Having a guide provides valuable opportunities to think things through with a seasoned professional and get feedback to help you improve your skills.
Having an IBCLC Mentor to guide me as I learned the “ins and outs” of private practice lactation consulting, was beyond beneficial. I am a tactile learner. I also need repetition. Working alongside my Mentor, I was able to get the hands-on learning experience, as well as the expert teaching and correction I needed. I cannot imagine preparing for the exam or independent private practice without my Mentor’s help.
