This month, we are proud to highlight the Michigan Association of Lactation Consultants (MALC). In 2015, MALC was able to nearly double their membership AND they brought their Fall Conference attendance up from an average of 70 participants to 118. These types of increases really help a chapter expand the scope of its projects and involvement in the larger lactation community. For example, MALC invested in renewing its group membership in the Michigan Breastfeeding Network to increase its statewide involvement. In addition, MALC was a Silver-Level Sponsor of the Black Mothers’ Breastfeeding Association Conference in October. BMBFA’s mission is to reduce racial inequities in breastfeeding support for African Americans by building foundational networks of support, and strengthening systems to overcome historical, societal and social barriers to breastfeeding success. MALC also worked to increase access to continuing education for current and future lactation professionals by hosting an event which offered 2 free L-CERPs to members and non-members. We are proud to have MALC as an official chapter of USLCA! You can find out more about MALC and its hard-working members at http://www.michiganassociationoflactationconsultants.org.
