Clinical Lactation is a peer-reviewed journal featuring practical techniques and the latest in evidence-based care for all professionals who work with breastfeeding families.
Digital Access and Basic level members receive their subscription to Clinical Lactation through online access only. All other members will receive a mailed, printed issue each quarter of their membership.
Quarterly issues are mailed late February, May, August, and November each year.
Members are responsible for keeping their mailing addresses up to date in their USLCA accounts. USLCA will not be responsible for issuing old journals that were not received due to missing or incorrect address information in a member’s USLCA account.

Shera C. Thomas Jackson, Ph.D., IBCLC
Editor-in-Chief | Clinical Lactation
Dr. Shera Jackson is the Editor-in-Chief for Clinical Lactation, am Assistant Professor-of-Practice and the Undergraduate Program Director for the Human Development and Family Sciences (HDFS) Department at Texas Tech University, and has worked in the field of lactation for over 15 years. Shera started her professional lactation career in 2004 working for the Mississippi State Health Department as a Lactation Specialist with WIC. After moving to Texas, she completed her Masters and Doctorate in HDFS. Her research focuses on the biological indices of growth and feeding effectiveness (such as milk-intake, infant weight gain, and adiposity), observational measures of feeding and non-feeding dyadic interactions (such as, latch quality and intrusive touch), and self-report measures of maternal psychosocial status variables (such as, depression, anxiety, social support, and breastfeeding self-efficacy). She maintains a small private practice but the majority of her work with lactation is focused on research.
Angela Lober, PhD, MPH, RN, IBCLC

Dr. Angela Lober is a breastfeeding advocate, academic, and writer. She has been an IBCLC since 2005, providing evidence-based care to breastfeeding families in her community. She is the director of the Academy of Lactation Programs at Arizona State University. She is involved in multiple professional and community organizations supporting breastfeeding families. Angela focused her PhD on the breastfeeding complexities of late preterm infants. She is dedicated to working for a better world for families. Angela is also committed to education and mentorship as a means of uplifting and uniting the lactation profession.
Marsha Walker, RN, IBCLC
Associate Editor | Clinical Lactation
Marsha is a registered nurse and international board certified lactation consultant. She has been assisting breastfeeding families in hospital, clinic, and home settings since 1976. As such, she advocates for breastfeeding at the state and federal levels. She served as a vice president of the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA) from 1990-1994 and in 1999 as president of ILCA. She is a previous board member of the US Lactation Consultant Association, Baby Friendly USA, Massachusetts Lactation Consultant Association, and the Massachusetts Breastfeeding Coalition. She serves as Associate Editor of Clinical Lactation, and president of the National Lactation Consultant Alliance. Marsha is an international speaker, and an author of numerous publications including ones on the hazards of infant formula use, Code issues in the US, and Breastfeeding Management for the Clinician: Using the Evidence, 5th edition.
Lisa H. Akers, PhD, RDN, IBCLC, RLC, FAND, FILCA

Dr. Lisa Akers has been working in the field of public health nutrition and human lactation for over 20 years. Lisa is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN), a Fellow of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (FAND), an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC), and a Fellow of the International Lactation Consultant Association (FILCA). She began her career in the WIC program working directly with new families and later transitioned to academia where she became passionate about developing new IBCLCs and RDNs. Lisa is a currently Research Scientist with the Gretchen Swanson Center for Nutrition where she advances the field of measurement, evaluation, and statistical analysis for nutrition-related programs. The focus of her current research is related to data equity and the intersection of dietetics and human lactation.
Lisa has served on numerous national and international boards and committees including the International Lactation Consultant Association (ILCA), Women’s Health Dietetic Practice Group (WH DPG) of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, and the United States Breastfeeding Committee (USBC). Aside from her background in human lactation and nutrition, Lisa’s expertise in nonprofit leadership has afforded her the opportunity to work as a consultant with numerous organizations in areas such as change management, fundraising, governance, grant writing, program evaluation, and strategic planning.
